Perhaps you're not finding ready-made clothes that fit you properly? This is the biggest reason behind that awful feeling when you look at a closet full of clothes but still "have nothing to wear." Something mass-produced is only going to be just right for your body by luck. That's not because there's anything wrong with your body. It's because everyone's body is different, as it should be.

Being a large woman, I find the quality of the fabrics and construction in most ready-to-wear clothes disappointing, and the fit poor. If I can't find what I want, I'll make it. I'll experiment until pieces feel comfortable and perform well when worn.

I am predominantly self-taught but have taken the occasional class in topics of interest such as pattern drafting and colour theory. I've learned from accomplished needlewomen and researched, read and experimented.

I take an organic approach to garment making. The starting point is the people the garments are for. What are their tastes? What suits their body type? Which fibres feel good against their skin? What demands does their lifestyle put on their clothing? Is the garment for a special occasion?

I'll work with you to develop a vision of the garment. After taking measurements, I make a muslin (a garment in inexpensive fabric without facings, hems and lining, which becomes the pattern) to assess fit and drape. The entire process is very collaborative. The result is comfortable and flattering wearable sculpture.

I'm happy to provide a free, no-obligation estimate and to discuss pricing arrangements. Since material costs and design details vary so much, I don't have a fixed price list. My prices are for design and manufacture only. Fabric and findings are charged separately, although I do provide clients with options at various price points and can work to a budget. A deposit of at least the material costs is required at the time of order. Lead time for a garment (or outfit) typically varies from two weeks to a month.
